Sahara

North African expanse

The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert, spanning much of North Africa from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea.

Its name comes from Arabic for desert.

Sahara often appears as shorthand for extreme dryness or emptiness: My skin feels like the Sahara in winter.

The phrase Sahara Desert is technically redundant but standard in English.
