splits

Gymnast's floor stretch

Splits refers to a position where the legs extend in opposite directions, forming a straight line—a feat of flexibility in gymnastics, dance, and yoga: She dropped into the splits.

In bowling, a split is when remaining pins stand with a gap between them, making a spare difficult.

The splits can also mean a drink made by splitting a standard portion: banana splits, wine splits.

To do the splits is to perform the gymnastic position.
