Mojave

Joshua tree terrain

Mojave refers to a desert region spanning southeastern California, southern Nevada, and parts of Arizona and Utah—characterized by extreme heat, sparse vegetation, and distinctive Joshua trees.

The name comes from the Mohave people, indigenous to the area along the Colorado River.

Mojave appears in place names and compounds: Mojave Desert, Mojave rattlesnake.

Apple's macOS Mojave (2018) borrowed the name for its desert-themed interface.
