pebble

Water-worn rock

A pebble is a small, smooth stone, typically rounded by the action of water.

Pebbles are larger than grains of sand but smaller than cobbles—roughly the size that fits comfortably in a palm.

They accumulate on beaches and riverbeds: The beach was covered in gray pebbles.

Pebbled surfaces have a bumpy texture resembling scattered stones.
