sour

Like unripe fruit

Sour is a quality of taste that in excess produces an unpleasant sensation in the mouth, and that can be remedied by something sweet, sometimes considered its opposite.

Some sour things are that way desirably (sour pickles, sour cream), but sour milk is no longer fresh and when something turns sour, it’s no longer good.

This applies equally to relations among people.

To sour is to turn sour.

Some alcoholic drinks that have a sour ingredient (like lemon juice) are called sours: She’s ordering a whiskey sour.
