eardrum
Sound-sensing membrane
The eardrum is the thin membrane inside the ear that vibrates in response to sound waves, transmitting them to the inner ear.
Loud noises or sudden pressure changes can rupture it: The explosion burst his eardrum.
Also called the tympanic membrane.
