mouth
Where rivers terminate
The mouth is primarily the opening through which food enters animal bodies.
In some contexts, mouth refers to the cavity in which food is chewed.
We also use our mouths to form and utter speech, and this function inspires some uses of mouth: You would not believe the things that came out of his mouth.
Any opening or terminus that serves an important function may be called a mouth, like the mouth of a cave or river.
The verb uses of mouth have to do with speech.
Someone who mouths off speaks disrespectfully.
If you mouth a word, you silently move your lips as if to pronounce it.
