ear infection
Canal inflammation condition
An ear infection is inflammation of the ear caused by bacteria or viruses, most commonly affecting the middle ear behind the eardrum.
Children are especially prone to them.
The term covers several conditions—otitis media (middle ear), otitis externa (swimmer's ear)—but in everyday speech usually means the painful kind that sends parents to the pediatrician: She's had three ear infections this winter.
