cochlea
Ear's sound converter
The cochlea is a spiral-shaped cavity in the inner ear that converts sound vibrations into nerve signals.
Its coiled structure resembles a snail shell, which is what the Latin name means.
The cochlea contains fluid and thousands of tiny hair cells that respond to different frequencies, enabling the brain to interpret sound.
