duck
Waddles and quacks
There are three English words spelled d-u-c-k.
Most frequent is a noun for a family of swimming birds that are often hunted and sometimes eaten (mallard duck).
As a verb, duck is the motion of lowering your head or body, especially quickly in order to avoid an obstacle or projectile: He ducked through the doorway.
A related meaning is push underwater: I ducked my head into the river to cool off.
Figuratively, it is to evade (duck out of the party, duck responsibility for the project).
Duck is also a noun for a heavy cotton fabric used for clothing and especially pants.
