scaup
Bay-dwelling diving duck
A scaup is a diving duck found in northern regions, recognized by its broad bill and the male's dark head with iridescent sheen.
Two species exist: the greater scaup and lesser scaup, both common in North America.
They dive for mollusks and aquatic plants in lakes, bays, and coastal waters.
A raft of scaup floated on the winter bay.
