robin
Orange-chested thrush
A robin is a small songbird with a reddish-orange breast.
The American robin is a thrush, larger and different from the European robin, which is a small Old World flycatcher—both named for their distinctive chest coloring.
Robins are associated with spring in temperate climates, often the first birds seen after winter: The robins are back, so spring must be coming. (Capitalized Robin is a given name.)
