stoop

Front entrance steps

A stoop is a small porch or set of steps at the entrance to a building, especially in urban row houses: We sat on the stoop and watched the neighborhood go by.

The word is most common in the northeastern United States.

Separately, to stoop is to bend forward and downward, or to lower oneself to something undignified: I won't stoop to that level.

A stoop in posture is a habitual forward bend of the shoulders.
