A hawk is a bird of prey with sharp talons, a hooked beak, and keen eyesight—smaller than eagles, larger than falcons.
Hawks hunt by day, swooping on rodents, rabbits, and smaller birds.
To hawk is to hunt with trained hawks.
Separately, to hawk is to sell aggressively, especially by calling out in public: street vendors hawking their wares.
A hawk also describes someone who favors aggressive or militaristic policies, opposed to a dove: The hawks in Congress pushed for intervention.
