guide

Shows the way

A guide is something that directs or shows the way.

It may be a person, a device, or text: We hired a guide to show us the old city. All new students are directed to a downloadable guide to dormitory life.

As a verb, guide serves a similar function: subheadings guide the reader through the complicated process.

As an adjective, guided typically communicates step-by-step direction: guided tour, guided meditation.
