pipe
Water flows through
Except for the kinds that contain tobacco or that are a musical instrument, a pipe is usually a simple hollow tube.
It may channel a fluid (drain pipe) or serve some other purpose, like the pipes on an organ.
To pipe something somewhere is to transport it in a pipe, or as if in a pipe (piped-in music, pipe frosting onto a cake).
In computing, to pipe data is to transmit it electronically, especially via wires rather than radio signals.
The keyboard character | is sometimes called a pipe.
