cannonade

Heavy gun bombardment

A cannonade is a period of continuous heavy gunfire, especially from artillery or cannons, typically during a military assault or bombardment.

The term extends to any prolonged barrage or bombardment, whether literal or figurative: The protesters faced a cannonade of criticism from local officials.

As a verb, to cannonade means to bombard with artillery fire or, more broadly, to attack with a sustained volley of something.
