field gun
Mobile battlefield cannon
A field gun is a mobile artillery piece designed for use in open terrain during battle.
Unlike siege guns or fortress artillery, field guns are light enough to accompany troops on campaign, typically mounted on wheeled carriages for rapid deployment: The battery positioned their field guns on the ridge overlooking the valley.
