bombardier
Aircraft weapons operator
A bombardier is a crew member on a military aircraft responsible for aiming and releasing bombs.
The role was crucial in World War II bombing campaigns, when bombardiers used mechanical computing sights to calculate trajectories: The bombardier called out "bombs away" over the target.
The term also refers to a beetle that defends itself by spraying hot, caustic chemicals from its abdomen. (Capitalized Bombardier is the Canadian aerospace and transportation company.)
