siege guns
Wall-destroying heavy cannons
Siege guns are large-caliber artillery pieces designed to destroy fortifications.
Too heavy for mobile warfare, they were positioned to bombard castle walls, city defenses, or entrenched positions over extended campaigns.
The term evokes pre-modern and early modern warfare, when reducing a fortress required massive firepower delivered over days or weeks: The siege guns were brought up to breach the walls.
