thunder
Lightning's delayed report
Thunder is the loud rumbling or crashing sound that follows lightning, caused by the rapid expansion of air heated by the electrical discharge.
By extension, any deep, resonant booming: the thunder of hooves, thunderous applause.
To thunder is to produce such sound, or to speak forcefully: He thundered his disapproval.
To steal someone's thunder is to preempt their moment of glory.
