report

Documented information summary

The central idea of report, whether as noun or verb, is representation of something that has already happened or is happening.

Generally, a report is a written or spoken account.

A written report is usually understood to be somewhat lengthy and authoritative.

When you report something, you tell someone about it, especially someone in authority.

This is often implied when no recipient of the information is named: Students are told to report any suspicious activity.

Things that are reported, as opposed to merely said or repeated, often take on an idea of importance simply by use of the verb.
