airframe

Plane's bare structure

The airframe is the structural body of an aircraft—fuselage, wings, and tail assembly—excluding engines, avionics, and other systems.

The term distinguishes the physical structure from what powers or controls it: The airframe was intact, but the engines had failed.

Airframe hours measure how long a particular aircraft structure has been in service.
