glider

Engineless soaring craft

A glider is an aircraft without an engine, designed to soar on air currents after being towed aloft or launched from a height.

The word extends to other things that glide smoothly: a porch glider swings back and forth on a frame, and sugar gliders are small marsupials that glide between trees using membrane-like skin flaps.
