ailerons
Wing's turning surfaces
Ailerons are hinged control surfaces on an airplane's wings, used to bank and turn.
When a pilot moves the control stick or wheel to one side, one aileron rises while the other lowers, creating unequal lift that rolls the aircraft: The aileron on the left wing dropped as we banked into the turn.
The word comes from French for "little wing."
