deformation
Bending out of shape
Deformation is a change in shape or form, especially one caused by stress, pressure, or damage.
The term appears most often in technical contexts—physics, engineering, geology—where materials bend, stretch, or compress under force: The metal showed signs of deformation after the crash.
Deformation can be temporary (elastic) or permanent (plastic), depending on whether the material returns to its original shape.
