canopic jar

Mummification storage container

A canopic jar is a lidded vessel used in ancient Egyptian burial practices to store the preserved internal organs of a mummified body.

The lids were typically carved to represent the four sons of Horus, each protecting a specific organ: liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines.

The jars were placed in the tomb alongside the mummy.
