Passover

Spring liberation festival

Passover is a major Jewish festival commemorating the Israelites' liberation from slavery in Egypt.

The name refers to God "passing over" Israelite homes during the final plague.

The eight-day observance includes a ceremonial meal called a seder, during which the story of the exodus is retold.

Leavened bread is forbidden; matzah (unleavened bread) is eaten instead: We're hosting Passover this year.

The holiday falls in spring, typically overlapping with Easter.
