counting

Determining a total

Counting is the act of determining quantity by assigning numbers in sequence, or the process of being included in a total.

As a modifier, it indicates whether something is factored in: not counting weekends, counting travel time.

What's counting against you works to your disadvantage.

If you're counting on something, you're relying on it.
