kibbutz
Communal farming settlement
A kibbutz is a collective community in Israel, traditionally agricultural, where members share property and labor.
Founded on socialist principles, kibbutzim (the Hebrew plural) emphasized communal living—shared meals, collective child-rearing, and democratic decision-making.
Many have since privatized, but the term still evokes idealistic communal enterprise: She spent a summer volunteering on a kibbutz.
