Ramadan

Islamic fasting period

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

During Ramadan, observant Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset.

The fast is broken each evening with a meal called iftar.

The month commemorates the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad and concludes with the festival of Eid al-Fitr.
