liberation
Release from bondage
Liberation is the act of setting free or the state of being freed.
Prisoners experience liberation when released; occupied territories achieve liberation when foreign forces withdraw.
The word often carries political weight: women's liberation, liberation theology, national liberation movements.
Liberation can also mean release from constraining attitudes or circumstances: the liberation of finally speaking the truth.
