Passover lamb

Exodus night offering

The Passover lamb is the lamb slaughtered and eaten during the Jewish festival of Passover, commemorating the Exodus from Egypt.

According to tradition, Israelites marked their doorposts with lamb's blood so the angel of death would "pass over" their homes.

In Christian theology, the term applies to Jesus Christ as a sacrificial figure: Behold the Lamb of God.
