Shabbat

Jewish weekly observance

Shabbat is the Jewish Sabbath, the weekly day of rest observed from Friday evening until Saturday night.

Traditional observance includes lighting candles, blessing wine and bread, attending synagogue, and abstaining from work as defined by Jewish law.

The word comes directly from Hebrew: Shabbat shalom is the standard greeting. (Lowercase shabbat appears in casual usage.)
