Passover dishes

Matzah ball soup

Passover dishes are the special tableware Jewish families use exclusively during Passover, kept separate from everyday dishes to avoid contact with leavened bread products forbidden during the holiday.

Many households maintain a complete set—plates, utensils, pots, pans—that comes out only for the eight-day observance: We store the Passover dishes in the basement the rest of the year.

The term can also refer to traditional foods served at the Passover seder.
