afikoman

Seder's hidden portion

Afikoman is a piece of matzah that plays a ceremonial role in the Passover seder.

Early in the meal, the middle of three matzot is broken, and the larger piece is set aside as the afikoman.

Traditionally it is hidden for children to find, with the finder receiving a small prize.

The afikoman is eaten at the end of the meal, and the seder cannot conclude until it has been consumed.
