barley
Grain for beer
Barley is a cereal grain, one of the oldest cultivated crops.
It serves mainly as animal feed and as the base for malt in brewing beer and distilling whiskey.
Pearl barley, with its outer hull removed, appears in soups and stews: beef and barley soup.
Barley has a chewy texture and mild, slightly nutty flavor.
