community

People living together

You could think of community as a word to describe a place where people commune, though the noun is much more frequent that the verb.

A community may exist in one place (small farming communities are scattered all over the county), or it may characterize a group of people separated in space but sharing particular common interests (the intelligence community was surprised by the attacks).

Community nearly always has positive connotations, reflecting the idea that common interests and pursuits are good for people.
