DVD-R
Write-once optical disc
DVD-R is a recordable DVD format that can be written to once.
The R stands for recordable.
Unlike rewritable formats, once data is burned to a DVD-R, it cannot be erased or overwritten: I burned the home videos to DVD-R for the family reunion.
The format holds about 4.7 gigabytes on a single-layer disc.
