Betamax

Lost format war

Betamax was a home videocassette format developed by Sony in the 1970s, competing with VHS for dominance in the consumer market.

Though considered technically superior, Betamax lost the "format war" and became synonymous with a quality product defeated by better-marketed competition: It's the Betamax of streaming services—great technology, no users.
