SSD

Diskless computer memory

An SSD, or solid-state drive, is a storage device that uses flash memory chips instead of the spinning platters found in traditional hard drives.

SSDs offer faster read and write speeds, consume less power, and are more durable since they have no moving parts.

They've largely replaced hard drives in laptops and are standard in modern computers: The new laptop comes with a 512GB SSD. (Lowercase ssd is an informal variant.)
