CD-R

Burned data storage

CD-R stands for compact disc recordable—a blank optical disc that can be written to once using a CD burner.

Unlike commercial CDs pressed at factories, CD-Rs let users create their own music compilations, data backups, or software copies.

Once burned, the data is permanent; you cannot erase or rewrite it.

CD-Rs were popular for personal archiving before USB drives and cloud storage largely replaced them.
