A repository is a place where things are stored or deposited, especially in large quantities or for safekeeping: a repository of ancient manuscripts, a nuclear waste repository.
The term extends to people or institutions that hold accumulated knowledge: She's a repository of local history.
In software development, a repository (or repo) stores code and tracks changes to it.
