matter
To be significant
Matter has complements of meanings denoting physical things (usually uncountable) and abstract things (often countable).
Physical matter is the substance of which something is made.
A form of matter is one of the typical states in which things exist, such as solid, liquid, or gas.
Abstractly speaking, a matter is a subject for discussion or consideration: Several matters were brought before the council. You didn’t say you needed your own room; that’s a different matter.
If something matters, it is important: The color doesn’t matter, just get a car. What she thinks doesn’t matter to me.
