texture
How it feels
Texture is how something feels to the touch—smooth, rough, grainy, silky.
The word extends to any surface quality perceived through senses: the texture of a painting's brushstrokes, the texture of a voice.
In food, texture describes mouthfeel: The soup needed more texture.
Figuratively, texture means richness or complexity: The novel has real texture.
