perm
Lasting salon waves
A perm is a chemical treatment that gives hair a lasting wave or curl, short for permanent wave.
The curls hold their shape through washing until the treated hair grows out.
To perm hair is to apply such a treatment: She permed her hair for the wedding.
Perms were especially popular in the 1980s.
In British usage, a perm is also a permutation, especially in football pools.
