protest
Voiced collective disapproval
Protest is an expression of objection or disapproval.
A protest can be a public demonstration: Thousands gathered to protest the new law.
It can also be a formal complaint: She filed a protest with the committee.
To protest is to object, but it can also mean to declare firmly: He protested his innocence.
Something done under protest is done reluctantly, with stated objection.
