corpuscle
Tiny blood particle
A corpuscle is a minute particle or cell, especially a blood cell.
Red corpuscles carry oxygen; white corpuscles fight infection.
The word appears in older medical and scientific writing but has largely given way to "cell" in modern usage: The corpuscles were visible under the microscope.
Corpuscle can also refer to any tiny particle in physics or biology.
