bounce
Ricochet off surfaces
Bounce, as both noun and verb, suggests a return to or away from the direction of origin, often rapid and sometimes complete.
If an email bounces, it cannot be delivered and is returned to the sender.
If a ball bounces, it is reflected off a hard surface and either back to the direction of original force or in a different direction: The player chased the ball after it bounced in the infield.
A bounce is an instance of return or upward movement, especially after a fall: After failing the test, the student bounced back and received a good grade in the class.
A check that bounces is refused by a bank because there is no money to cover it.
