lose track

Stop paying attention

To lose track is to fail to maintain awareness of something over time.

You lose track of old friends when contact fades, lose track of time when absorbed in an activity, or lose track of expenses when you stop monitoring them.

The opposite is keep track: I've lost track of how many times I've seen that movie.
